Super7 Transformers Gives Fallen Optimus Prime and Reformatting Megatron a Retro VHS Makeover
Two fan-favorite ULTIMATES! figures return as $29.99 Target exclusives for the 40th anniversary of The Transformers: The Movie
Super7 Transformers is marking the 40th anniversary of The Transformers: The Movie by revisiting two of its more unusual ULTIMATES! releases. Fallen Optimus Prime and Reformatting Megatron are Target-exclusive Transformers Deluxe figures, simplified and cheaper than the originals and packed in oversized VHS-style boxes.
Both use existing ULTIMATES! molds. The original Fallen Leader Optimus Prime recreated his death scene in greyscale, with a heavily damaged left torso, cracks across the figure and rifle, a chest that opens to reveal the Matrix, and several pairs of hands. It was expected in 2023 but didn’t arrive until early 2024. The 2026 Deluxe keeps the monochrome look, tones down some of the battle damage, and includes only his ion blaster.
Reformatting Megatron gets the same treatment. The ULTIMATES! version showed him during the scene where Unicron reformats him into Galvatron, in translucent purple plastic with wireframe-style detailing, four pairs of hands, and two heads, one of them a battle-damaged scan look that never appeared in the movie. The Deluxe drops the wireframe and all of the extras, leaving a clean translucent purple Megatron with his fusion cannon.
The packaging is the real selling point. The boxes are styled after classic Transformers VHS releases, which is a big part of why I want them. At $29.99 each, they’re also a much easier buy than the originals.
If you missed the ULTIMATES! versions, or couldn’t justify their prices for two very specific moments from the 1986 movie, these are a fun way to add them to the collection. If you already own the originals, the VHS packaging is really the main reason to look twice.
